Craftsman Farmhouse Entryway Makeover

Are you in love with the farmhouse trend right now? I am on the fence myself. While I love the look, I feel it’s not all the way for me. It was weird when a friend told me about a place she found that conducted a study on the farmhouse trend, but it got me interested in it. So, I have decided my style is an Industrial Craftsman Farmhouse. And it works for me!
Let’s take a look at what this space used to look like. This is when we moved in……. 2006 baby!
This was our first attempt to lighten up this area. Still so absolutely blah to me!
At some point a couple of years ago, I painted it mint green, but did nothing else at the time. We started by removing the door, and all of the trim. When we did the major remodel/addition on our home, we transitioned to craftsman style doors and trim and this space had not yet been updated.
First up was the coveted shiplap! We love this style, so much that we had installed it in our home 5 years ago! We had shiplap in our old master bedroom.
Once the shiplap and header were installed, we painted it with Behr Marquee Ultra White paint! We also painted the walls and trim at the same time. My favorite color!
We decided to get rid of the closet, because let’s be real….. it was a catch-all that was NEVER organized. So we carried the shiplap look into that space to cover up all of the plaster damage from over the years.
I got these fun hooks from Home depot and installed them on the header. We decided to only do the upper hooks since our children are all growing up and becoming teenagers that will soon be taller than me.
We installed a floating bench, using a project board from Lowes. I wanted a solid piece of wood that would stain well, and I have had really good luck with these. Speaking of wood staining, I’m wanting to get our outdoor fence done so it looks fresh and like new. Thankfully, there are plenty of places who can stain your wood fence for you so I shouldn’t have a problem getting this sorted.
We did the same thing for the shelf, just made it smaller than the bench.
We used Varathane Kona stain by Rustoleum. It matches the stain on our front door.
A couple of coats of a satin polyurethane and we were finished! The space looks SO absolutely fresh and clean! The last thing on our list was to finally get rid of the boob light! Who ever thought those were a good creation?
Our house was built in 1952 so the ceilings are not very high. We were VERY limited on what style fixture we could put up in this space. Everything in stock was too long, so I headed to Amazon and found this beauty! It was exactly what I was looking for. I also ordered my Edison bulbs on Amazon because I wanted bright day light! The Edison bulbs you get at Home Depot tend to be low watt warm lighting.
I also grabbed a few home decor items to finish up the space, I found some of them at my local Real Deals on Home Decor store, along with Target and Amazon.
I found this amazingly large preserved boxwood wreath at Target. I had been looking for one forever, but wasn’t to interested in spending $50-$75 on one. This one was $44.95 and then I got to use my $10 coupon from being a preferred customer! Perfect timing Target!
I picked the frame up a few years ago at a flea market and just added the chicken wire myself. Perfect simple farmhouse decor! I had looked at creating a rustic print on Bumblejax.com as $34.95 was still a lot for a wreath but then I went with my gut instinct and got the wreath. We ended up using Bumblejax to create unqiue prints for Christmas gifts instead!
Our door is from Home Depot, and we are SO happy with it. The front door was a huge disaster and more drama than you care to ever read about. We made this work and couldn’t be happier.
The pillow cover came from Amazon and was $5.50!! It’s so amazing, AND it was on prime! You can find it here.
There you have it. A couple of weekends worth of work and we have a brand new entryway. There are times that I walk through the house and find myself stopping just to stare at this space. Very simple renovations can have the biggest impact on your home! As for what comes next, we’ve been thinking about installing an Eatel Home Alarm System. You can never be too safe and having a system like this in place can give you peace of mind that your property and possessions are safe and under surveillance at all times.
Thank you so much for stopping by. Be sure to follow me on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram!
